What's this?
This is the Corgi that wags, not wiggles. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is markedly different from the Pembroke: It is larger, longer bodied, has rounded ears, a naturally long tail and comes in more colors. It was originally developed as an all-purpose farm dog, one that drove, guarded and herded cattle. The Cardigan is low slung and sturdy, measuring about 12 inches at the shoulder. The coat has a hard texture and may be brindle, red, sable, tri-color, black and white, or blue merle, with or without white markings. Brush the coat about three times a week to remove dead hair, and be aware that the coat sheds a lot. The breed makes a fine family pet for town or country provided it's given lots of daily outdoor exercise. This is a smart dog that's easy to train. It has many admirers, and gained appreciation after the release of the popular movie "The Accidental Tourist," in which the canine star Edward is portrayed by an attractive Cardigan.
