How We Met?

I wanted a pug from childhood on. I thought they were so cute, especially their faces! I thought they were so unique, how they made so many noises: snorting, sneezing, wheezing. A friend of my mom's had a pug, and it was love at first sight for me. But I was going off to college, couldn't have any pets, so I put my wishes on hold. When I came home from school, I had done so much research on Pugs, what kind of care they needed, what kind of home would be good for them. I also did research on puppies in general, like housetraining, basic commands, puppy proofing your home, just making sure you're ready for a puppy. Well my mom couldn't say no after all that work. So I looked up breeders, asked pug owners about where they bought, and just on a whim my mom looked at a newspaper my grandma brought by. It was extremely long distance. Soon my mom found an article that touched her, and the phone number was up by where we lived. The breeder ended up living just a little way down from us. We were able to see the mother and father, which helped me relax more, and when we went inside, there weren't dogs all over the place. The only other dogs were the puppies. So I was so glad that it wasn't a puppie mill. There were two puppies to choose from, and I held his litter mate first. He was very snuggly, calm in my arms, but, I knew I had to hold the other as well. And oh my, it was love at first sight. He clung right to me, didn't even want to go back to my mom when I had to sign the papers. That's when I knew he felt it too, that we were meant to be together.

Whew! WHAT a busy month May has been for us. I'm planning on blogging much more this June, but I wanted to start off early and let you all know how we have been doing today! First off, I have a LOT of new photos so come by soon and check them out :) Secondly, I have some bad news. Mom had to sell our cows, Annie (the calf) and Claire (the mother), because it was all too much work and commitment. We have so many animals.. over 100 chickens, a duck, a goose, a steer (Claire's twin brother, whom we're keeping), two alpacas, two cats, a budgie and we dogs. So instead of wasting a perfectly good milking cow (Claire) and a possibly good future milking cow (Annie), we sold them to a dairy farm down the road. Mom's dad, whom she still lives with, is friends with the farmers so we know that the two went to a very good home. Mom of course misses them both (especially little Annie) VERY much, but we had passed our limit on how many pets we can have. Another exciting thing is that we got 66 chicks on Tuesday!! All but five are going to be for meat, so they aren't pets that will hold the family down. For those who know the breeds of chickens, we got Jersey Giants, Dark Cornish and Brown Leghorn. YET another thing that has us on our toes, is that we have a hen that has been brooding a clutch of eggs. Well the first baby hatched either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning (we found the chick on Wed. morning)! Mom and I have been keeping a close eye on the other eggs. This afternoon, another chick was trying to hatch. And while you're not supposed to intervene, Mom helped #2 get out of the shell because it was taking so very long. Turns out, it might have a deformed leg (hard to tell right now, but she's pretty sure) so Mom wonders if it would have been capable of breaking through the shell by itself. Now we've got a #3 peeping in it's shell. I love helping Mom take care of chicks! Well this blog is getting SUPER long, so I'll have to get going now. Anyway, I'm ecstatic to be back on DC, and maybe I'll be blogging every day now? We'll see! Pawing a vote for you .. have a wonderful night dear friend :) Border Collie Kisses, Ruby Tuesday Rose ♥ xoxo

. A huge thanks to everyone for their kind words and prayers. I know the DC played a huge role in helping me get better. I just had a check up and my doctor was shocked at how well I am doing. She assumed I had found new homes for my dogs, but I told her that they are all still living with me, that it was and is possible for me to live with my babies and maintain a healthy life. I will still have to use inhalers and do daily breathing treatments, which is a small price to pay in order to keep my babies at home with me. All the dogs are now used to the new grooming routine, which helps prevent unwanted hair, and the supplament I got from their vet seems to be working too. I can't thank everyone enough for their support and prayers, the DC never fails to be there for us, or anyone in need. Thank you, Becky, Mitch 174036, Jack, Lilly, and Maggie

Hi Mitchie, Thinking about your Mom and hoping that she is doing well and breathing much better. I (Max) just got back from the vet's office. I have a double ear infection. It is very inflamed. I'm now taking a prednisone taper along with ear medication. Mommy is concerned that she will have some trouble putting the drops into my ears because even the vet had lots of trouble cleaning out my ears. I was yelping in pain and it took two techs and the vet along with Mommy giving me tons of treats to allow the vet to clean my ears. She wasn't even able to do a thorough cleaning but she said that once the prednisone reduces the inflammation it might be easier to do. Mommy will be trying to give the drops tomorrow morning. For now she is doing the prednisone hoping that it helps somewhat with the pain. I'm 50 lbs already! I'm almost the same weight as Snickers (55 lbs). Happy Memorial Day weekend! Here is a vote for you. Love, Snickers & Max
