Melian (In Loving Memory)

Melian (In Loving Memory) How are you doing? I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful day with lots of good food and good company. I wanted to stop by on the day before and wish you a Happy Thanksgiving but the DC was down! ;( __________________________________________________________________________________ And then I wanted to stop by on the day itself but we were too busy stuffing ourselves with stuffing. And then Friday my kitty brother won cotd. And then the weekend we were eating again, and so on…. Every day I told mama I wanted to blog but we didn't get a chance! __________________________________________________________________________________ And yet again we are burning the midnight oil as I finally persuaded mama that enough was enough. I didn't want to wait any longer! How was your celebration? Do you have all your Christmas stuff up yet? __________________________________________________________________________________ Can you believe that December starts tomorrow? This year has flown by. It's pouring rain here which I'm not too happy about. Mama was happy until she had to go out in it and feed the horses. She came back wet, dirty, and frustrated. hehe I did NOT help her. She's on her own in bad weather. __________________________________________________________________________________ I hope you're staying warm and keeping dry. Here's a vote for you!

Labrador Retriever | MALE | 9 YEARS OLD | Allen, TX CLUB DOG MEMBER SINCE: February 6, 2007 ...... www.dogchannel.com/club-dog/labrador-retriever-14384-club-dog-profile.aspx ....... Franki is in ICU since 8am this morning .. he was in Respiratory distress with CHF(Congested Heart Failure.) At 11a he was worse and 1pm he vomited up what looked to be a ham bone .. though he's never had one before? And it did bring some relief to him. His temp is 104.5, and he also has a collapsed trachea area - and for certain an infection. He is on his 3rd bag of fluids, has had 2 antibiotic shots, lasix and prednisone ..chest xray- he will have extensive blood work to help them discern meds to use to help him .. he did have an Enlarged heart, fluid pockets in his intestines and stomach prior to vomiting .. they believe one of the areas they thought was a pocket of fluid was that bone he vomited - he was much better at 1p when I saw him then at 11a .. I was up with him all night long at home Friday .. keeping fans on him, humidifier, moving him every 2hrs .. giving him oral meds of antibiotics, lasix, and prednisone so glad I started all that during the night .. it may make the difference in his outcome. The Vet was greatly relieved that his condition improved after he vomited .. said he was still in the woods, but not as critical. I am heart sick as you can imagine. Rex is out of town but will be home tomorrow. Diane

. Hello dear Stony! Thank you thank you for your continued support. It means very much to me and mom that some of my friends continued to support me this month for DOTM even though I haven't been able to carry out my daily theme as planned. We considered canceling my run and maybe in the future trying again when we have more time and can be active the whole month through. But if we did that, I feel I'd seem ungrateful for all the support I have received so far. I just regretted not being here every day and showing you my appreciation for voting me a DC top dog. I'm afraid I have looked more deserving at other times.....But for the past 4 years, you, my friends, have always been so understanding and forgiving. So win or lose, I want to do something in return that shows my appreciation for your friendship. I love you all so much!!!__________________ Now for that tour I mentioned (hehehe).....If you didn't receive my post on Anchorage, please read it on the tour page 235583. And while you're there, be sure to check out the photo gallery, which is updated daily. Today we are visiting 5 of Alaska's special places............1 - Admiralty Island: This lush island supports the largest concentration of bald eagle nests in the world. One study found 1,029 nests on Admiralty Island, about 1 nest per mile of coastline. Most bald eagles nest near saltwater in Sitka spruce trees more than 400 years old. A pair of eagles may use and enlarge the same nest year after year. Some of these huge nests can weigh as much as a small truck after many years of use............ 2 - Tongass National Forest: Most of southeast Alaska, including Admiralty Island, is part of the largest national forest in America, the 17-million acre Tongass National Forest. Alaska's state tree, the Sitka spruce, is the largest of all spruce trees. These magnificent trees can reach 250 feet in height, and 5 to 10 feet in diameter. They may live for 500 to 850 years............ 3 - Glacier Bay National Park: Alaska has approximately 100,000 glaciers, more than all other sates combined. Scenic Glacier Bay is surrounded by the St. Elias Mountains, rising to over 15,000 feet. Nine tidewater glaciers flow down from these mountains, spilling into the saltwater. Towering blocks of ice, up to 200 feet high, can break loose and crash into the bay. Huge icebergs may float in the bay for a week or more, providing perches for eagles and cormorants and safe resting sites for harbor seals............ 4 - Prince William Sound: This is a marine haven for humpback whales, sea otters, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, Dall porpoise, and orcas. In March 1989, the Exxon Valdez oil tanker struck Bligh Reef and spilled more than 11 million gallons of crude oil into Prince William Sound. Hundreds of thousands of birds perished and thousands of marine mammals died. During the clean up, as many as 11,000 people worked to remove the toxic oil. Today, scientists continue to monitor the sound, which is in the process of recovering............ 5 - Matanuska River Valley: This valley is the most productive agricultural area in Alaska. Every year local farmers produce large vegetables in its fertile soil. With 24-hour light, plants grow quickly in June and July. Many national and world-record vegetables have been grown and exhibited at the annual Alaska State Fair......where there are also great hot dog stands ;) Thank you once again, for everything. Pawed your voter! Hugs & prayers from your friend, Yukon ☆ ★ ☆

. Hello Stony, and Welcome to Anchorage!! Here you will find first-class dog-friendly hotels and quaint B&B's, four-star restaurants and small cafes, an outstanding Museum of History and Art and a multitude of other fun activities. It's a great place to get ready to fish, hunt, climb and camp. :•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•: Alaska is one-fifth the size of the continental US; so you won't see it all in one visit. Start with Anchorage. Base your expedition here, summer or winter, and do your exploring from Anchorage. Wedged between the two arms of Cook Inlet and the imposing Chugach Mountains, Anchorage is home to over forty percent of Alaska's population and is the state's transport hub. A sprawling city on the edge of one of the world's great wildernesses, it often gets bad press from those who live elsewhere in the state and deride it as "just half an hour from the real Alaska." However, it has its attractions and, with its beautiful setting, can make a pleasant one- or two-day stopover. :•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•: Anchorage was born in 1915 as a tent city for Alaska Railroad construction workers. During the 1930s, hopefuls fleeing the Depression poured in from the Lower 48, and World War II – and construction of the Alaska Highway – further boosted the city. The opening of the airport established Anchorage – midway between New York and Tokyo – as the "Crossroads of the World," and statehood in 1959 and the 1970s oil boom brought in yet more optimistic adventurers. :•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•: When you are exploring the great outdoors, don’t forget to spend time exploring the great indoors. The wide variety of products available in Anchorage means your suitcase should go home just a little, or a lot, heavier than when you arrive. You’ll find there is something for the most dedicated shopper, the one who’s just along to hold the purse and everyone who falls somewhere in between. No sales tax is an added benefit, and most of the local gift shops will ship purchases around the world. If any of you "unacclimated" poochies forgot to pack a sweater (you know, in your excitedness, hehe) today would be a good time to pick one out at the many unique Alaska sweater & parka shops. :•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•: Now that the chauffeur (myself, bol) has driven us to the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, let us hear some fun facts about Alaska from our tour guide, Peaksters......Peaka: "Thank you, bro. Tour members, here you can trace 10,000 years of history, from the formation of towering peaks to dinosaurs and mammo-" Y: "The FACTS, Peaka"....P: "Oh right, hehe...." ★ Point Barrow is the northernmost point in U.S.A. ★ The speedy Siberian Husky was brought to Alaska in 1909. ★ Alaska's state bird, the willow ptarmigan, is white in the winter and brown in the summer. ★ The aurora borealis is the northern-light display that brightens the 24-hour winter nights. In the summer, Alaska is the land of the midnight sun. ★ Alaska is almost 1/5 as large as the rest of the U.S.A. ★ Endangered humpback whales are often seen in summer off Alaska's coast, where cold arctic waters provide plenty of rich plankton to eat. ★ The Sitka Spruce is the state tree of Alaska. ★ Cedar totem poles of NW coastal tribes are sometimes 80 feet tall. ★ Kodiak Island is home to the largest brown bears on earth. ★ Horned puffins fish off the Western-Alaskan Aleutian Islands. ★ The state flower of Alaska is the forget-me-not".........Y: "Thank you, Peaka :) Tour members, after a day in the town of exploring, sightseeing (for the sighthounds ;P) and trail sniffin', let's head back to our hotel at the Microtel Inn and Suites located at 5205 Northwood Drive. Get a good sleep cause soon dad flies in his plane to Anchorage to pick us up! :) :•:•:•:•:•: Thank You :•:•:•:•:•: so very much for your support, dear DC friends. We hope you're enjoying the tour so far! Big hugs from a big guy (hehehe) ☆ ★ ☆ Yukon ☆ ★ ☆ P.S. Snapshots from our tour of Anchorage, along with a few from previous winter-time flyovers, can be viewed on the new tour members fun page! • • • #235583 • • •

. :•:•:•:•:•:•:•:•: Hi Stony!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support you have given me for my DOTM run. Thursday morning I had to rub my eyes and *blink blink blink* when I saw my very own face looking at me through the DOTD window. Mom and I were touched beyond words!! Because I haven't been able to be very active on DC lately, I didn't expect so many to remember me. Mom and I were very sorry not to be diligently sending messages throughout the first week of my run, and we felt really bad about it. We have been looking so forward to this for a long, long time, and we wanted to send thank-yous every day. But some things came up that Mommy had to take care of. Now Peaka keeps teasing me about how she started off her run last year, and how mom helped her blog every day from the start. But I guess I'll have to forgive them both :) It sure is embarrassing that on the 9th day of the month, I'm telling you what my "theme" is.......you're probably thinking, "What, 'Dogs going MIA?'"....BOL!!! But maybe my profile photo was a hint? Okay enough of that, (now Peaka's really sending me strange looks, hehe)....... I would like to take you on a tour of our favorite place in the world, our home state: Alaska!......The name conjures up adventure, raw natural beauty -- glaciers, mountains and seas, unmatched the world around -- fascinating wildlife, a unique cultural heritage, and independent, pioneering people. There are no roads in much of Alaska, so to really get out and see many of the "The Great Land"s special places, you need an airplane and an experienced pilot. That's why 1 in 68 people in Alaska do exactly that....fly airplanes! And we are proud that our very own daddy is a pilot :) Having a plane of your own enables you to do a lot of cool stuff! But airplanes in AK aren't just fun and games. Many off-road villages located in Alaska completely depend on the pilots for delivery of food, fuel, and other necessities for every day life. Also, there is a large number of fishing lodge businesses located in the wilderness of Alaska, and every one of them relies on its planes. Our family owns and operates a lodge like this: Alaska's Fishing Unlimited. You can learn more about our unique fishing adventures at our website: AlaskaLodge.com. On this special tour for DC friends, Dad would be thrilled to fly you in one of our planes. As you venture north, Anchorage will provide the ideal gateway to most of what Alaska offers. If you would like to join us on this Great Alaskan Tour, please meet us at the Anchorage Airport in Anchorage, AK, Thursday, August 10th. Since this is a virtual tour, I don't think you'll mind the short notice too much ;) Thank you again, so very much, for the outstanding support I have received. You are just the best friends I could ever have!! :) Hugs, prayers, and a vote from your very grateful friend, Yukon ^..^ P.S.....Now for the important stuff!! hehehe....Brought you a big ol' tray of frosted doggy bone-shaped cupcakes and some yummy salmon punch. Enjoy!........oh yeah, and complements of my silly sis Peaka (don't worry, it's safe to eat, Bol)
