How We Met?
I stopped into a local small breed pet store that I visited from time to time to play with the dogs. I happened to ask about Long Haired Chis. They told me they had two in the back of the shop that they were not showing because they "didnt meet the breed standard" & was told they were going to be "farmed out." I asked to see them: one was a fawn colored chi that looked perfectly fine to me; the other, a tiny thing, all different colors, with huge ears, one big paw and a wagging tail, simply stole my heart. I couldnt bear the thought of him not having a home, so I decided I would give him mine.I was not permitted to have a dog in my apartment, but I was determined to get this dog out of harm's way. The local vet and I pursuaded my landlord, and I took Chico home! Chico was the first dog I ever bought. My family always adopted or had a stray. I dislike pet stores and abhor puppy mills. I have since become very involved in volunteer rescue/adoption. I work with shelters and network online with other great volunteers in the hopes of saving dogs and placing them in good homes. I also volunteer with the Love Wanted adoption group that holds monthly adoption events. We belong to the GREAT NYC Chihuahua Meetup group, Small Dog Group and Plans For Pups and love to get together with these great owners & their wonderful dogs and particpate when we can in their many charitable fundraisers for animals!
