A lady I worked with said her husband had found a dog tied up outside a store to a pole and they were looking for a home for her. She said that the dog was a Sheltie-mix and looked to be about 1 - 1 1/2 years old. My daughter was 16 and didn't really need me running her places or taking care of her. Since this was my only child I was starting to feel the empty nest syndrome. I decided to take the dog because I now had the time for a dog. While my daughter was growing up I didn't have the time to take care of a dog. Kira was my first dog since I became an adult. Kira looked like she had been abused, abandoned and neglected. She was very scared of people and wouldn't let them come near her. It took me about 2 years to get her over the fear and another year before she became a Therapy Dog. That was my goal to be able to do that. I took her to obedience classes and found out about Canine Freestyle Dancing. She was nervous at first now she loves it. I had always wanted to get her into doing agility because I thought she would like it. 5 years ago I started classes then started to compete about 4 years ago. I have had her for 8 years and we have determined that she is Sheltie/Beagle-mix. She is now a TDIEVA for 350 pet visits and several titles in agility as well as freestyle dancing. She has over 450 visits logged for Therapy Dog but no other titles are available.
