How We Met?
I used to volunteer at an area shelter, working with the dogs to help adoptability. Kimi (FKA Bess) was the only dog NOT rushing to the front of her kennel for attention. Instead, she lay in the back, shivering at the thought of me entering her pen. The conditions of shelter life can drag a dog's morale to the dirt, and she was the epitomy of what is known as "Kennel Sour". Unadoptable dogs were euthanized, a concept that I fully understand due to the over population and lack of support for these types of organizations. However, Kimi just broke my heart. Especially after I won her trust, moved her to another environment in the shelter, and began to work on her social skills, or lack there-of. When others tried to approach her, shivering and panic was her response. It was clear to me that she required more in-depth therapy that I could not achieve as long as she remained in the confines of the shelter. Special arrangements were made at my home and 2yrs later, she is an entirely different dog! My intentions were to find her a home, but little did I know, she found a fur-ever home right here. She no longer shivers or panics with strange people and her confidence is as high as the rest of her pack. She and Nova are best friends, and she is seriously the best form of exercise for the hyper collie puppy! She attends daycare 3 days a week, playing and socializing with several other dogs. Kimi's future was uncertain just 2 yrs ago. Now, she will grow old here, as all our dogs do, and is an important addition to our fur-family!
