How We Met?

A friend of my oldest daughter left his Akita/Wolf mix here saying he would come back to pick her up. Unfortunately he waited too long & Spike got to know her! Scout & 7 other siblings were born soon after. He looks so much like his dad Spike(except in size) that we had to keep him! He's got the wolf look when he's barking but is sweet, gentle & very shy. He's slowly going blind due to age but has excellent hearing & smell so nothing gets past him.Our kitty crew on CC are Zaboomafoo, Patches, Trixie, Angel Sherman & Angel Cloudy...aka "The NICE crew".

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike He was found by my former employers & was moved into the nursing facility along with 2 cats as mascots/stimulus animals. I kept telling them he was going to be big but they didn't believe me untilhe got too big for the pen they had inside for him. They made an "administrative" decision to take him to the pound but word flew around the facility because he was so well liked & I took him home with me the next day. My husband wasn't expecting him but has grown very attached & worries if Spike doesn't run over to bark at him as he drives in. His name was originally Noah but that didn't seem to fit him & I let the kids name him Spike after the dog on the Rugrats.I became an angel on 5/3/11 after a short illness. I know I'll be remembered with love because I put my big paw prints on mom's heart forever! Our kitty crew on CC: The NICE crew (Zaboo,Patches, Trixie, Angel Sherman & Angel Cloudy)Angel Spike page #95721

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike This June 26th 4 years ago my heart shattered into pieces when I found Ruff dead at the edge of the woods. The day before I had taken him to the vet. He wasn't acting right. I was told that he needed his fur shaved due to the above 100 temps. I left him & they shaved his fur. But he still wasn't himself. The next morning he was gone. Sometime during the night Ruff had went off to die. Ruff is the dog that changed my life. Lady had come to live with us then Poochie. The back yard was fenced in & a doggie door put in the back door so Poochie could go outside to potty & play with Lady. Life was good! Then A CNA at work wanted to talk to me...her name was Laura. Laura told me that she rescued dogs she had 10 and the last one she rescued was a full blooded Great Pyrenees. He had been checked by the vet & had his shots & the vet said he was around 9 months old.I told her I was afraid of "strays" and didn't need anymore dogs. Laura begged me to just look at him & please reconsider That she needed help with her dogs. The next day was Saturday around 9am the phone rang I heard my husband talking to Laura. Finally he told her we'd meet her at Wal Mart to just look at him but we had enough dogs. When we pulled in Wal Mart parking lot neither one of us could take our eyes off the dog. He was the most beautiful animal I'd ever seen! Needless to say Ruff had a home and now a name. I have never been around such a gentle animal. He loved everyone. But Ruff had been mistreated. He was afraid of loud noises, storms & he ran when I tried to take a pic of him, Laura thought he had been shot at.The doggie door...Poochie did fine...then Lady started squeezing in, some of the screws fell out then. One night I got home only to find the back door tore down, Ruff had tried to get through & broke the back door down. When we moved further out in the country we were afraid Ruff would leave....no way!Ruff topped out at 230 lbs. That morning as I held Ruff in the rain & cried I made him & God a promise. The dogs I now get are all strays. I no longer fear them. Sometimes the best things in life are free. I love you Ruff!

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike I didn't really want Miss Lady. She was a beautiful 9 month old black lab but nothing was safe around Lady, she was into everything! She belonged to my son & his wife. They loved Lady but when Angela got pregnant they were afraid Lady would hurt the baby the way she kept jumping up on Angela. They knew we had just lost our dog of 17 years & thought since we lived in the country it would be great for Lady. My husband said yes but I was wanting a dog to be 'my baby" Poochie was the dog I picked for that but he wasn't old enough to be given away yet. When Poochie did come home he weighed all of 3 lbs. Lady at 10 months was 60!Lady was into everything! We caught her tearing the bark off a pine tree. I was afraid for Poochie to be around her! The day they met Poochie was walking around in the back yard when he crawled on a towel. Lady grabbed the end of the towel & dragged Poochie all over the yard, they were best friends for the next 10 years! When we moved Miss Lady decided to be an inside dog. All it took was one accident, my husband scolding her and she was house broken! She was so smart & loving! She loved to swim too! We have a pond, everyday Lady would swim (unless it was frozen of course). To this day almost 3 years to her passing there's a sign that reads Lady's pong. As soon as I live & am able it will be there. 3 years ago this past December Lady started having trouble walking. They put her on steroids. As long as she was on them she was fine. The vet said Lady had an enlarged spleen, he suspected cancer. He said surgery was the only way to know for sure but it was risky. If it was only in the spleen he could remove the spleen & give us a little more time with her. She was weak that morning she had swam in her pond but we had to carry her back to the house. We prayed about it & decided if at all possible we wanted more time with her. Our precious Miss Lady died during surgery. We were heart broken but the cancer was all over her. The vet said she could only have lasted another month or two & it was blessing she just went to sleep!Miss Lady was part of the Alabama Gang. She's an Alabama Angel but I still feel her & sometimes while I'm sitting at the pond reading I think I hear a splash & I know its Miss Lady enjoying a swim!

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike I kept telling my husband I wanted a corgi and he kept saying maybe for my birthday. 11 days before my birthday I went outside at 11 pm and saw something at the end of our driveway and called to it. She came running to me. She was very skinny and dirty but I took her in and fell completely in love with her. I feel like she was a gift from God!She's #107959

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike Melian 141414 __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It's still very hard for me to write about Melian. She was the most beautiful dog that ever graced the earth. Her beauty was only matched by her sweet and gentle nature. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The same night that my first dog, Tiny, was dying from a severe stroke, Melian was still born and was fighting for her life. She was revived and turned out to be the bravest, most mischievous, and exquisite of her litter. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I went and picked her up at 9 weeks of old. She had so much personality packed into that tiny body. It was a 5 hour drive. She wasn't happy and howled until she finally fell asleep about half way through. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Training salukis is not easy. They are a very independent breed and Melian was no exception. She was stubborn and it took several months before she truly respected me. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Once our bond developed though we were inseparable and she was such a good girl. I could trust her to run free on the roads, out on our property, and out in the wilderness. She would always come to my call. Not because she had to but because she wanted to. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ She loved me as much as I loved her. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One day when she was just 4 years old, that all ended too suddenly. A loose dog attacked her and in her panic to escape she ran into a fence and broke her neck. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It is hard for me to escape the image in my mind of her lying in the snow, not moving. And hearing the sound of the fence… __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I miss Melian so much. I knew I'd have tears streaming by the time I got to the end of this. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ My only consolation is that, short as her life was, she lived life to the fullest and I never let a day go by that I didn't appreciate her. Kiss your dogs every day!

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike Lucky 3/6/2000 - 7/26/2014 - On July 26th around 2:30am Lucky passed away. Lucky's health had been declining in the 2 months after having a dental done. She had an enlarged heart, was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and 2 weeks before she passed away, I was told she was in early kidney failure. It hurts not seeing her around, as she was a big part of the Pack, as all of them actually is. She was so energetic and her age didn't slow her down, she would play and run as if she was still a pup. It is quiet now without her presence here, and so hard as Lucky was a big part of my heart. she was the best dog I could have ever asked for. Lucky was a very loving and kind natured dog. She, herself had a big heart for a little dog. She would loved anyone, because that is the kinda dog she was. she never had a mean bone in her body. She will be missed terribly as there will never be another dog like her. I miss my little girl so much. Your not suffering anymore and you can run and play like you use to. I will always remember the love you have given to me over the past several years. It wont' be the same without you here with me. I love you Lucky! RIP girl, until we are together again ... ********* A neighbor of mine, since moved, had got her from a friend of his, she had really no one to play with so she took up with my 3 dogs at the time. He decided he didn't want her anymore so he asked if we would take her, and of course we said, "Yes"! And we've had her ever since. She had been passed down from who knows how many people, and now she is with us. I don't know how old she actually is, so I gave an estimation, of the month that we got her, and her age is between what the vet and I estimated how old she could be.Her page is #37934.

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike I adopted Rico from the Annapolis, Maryland SPCA shelter. As he got older he developed several serious health problems which included a heart murmur, pancreatitus & Cushing's Disease. He crossed over the Rainbow Bridge August 4, 2007 "They say memories are golden well maybe that is true. I never wanted memories I only wanted you. In life I loved you dearly, In death I love you still. In my heart you hold a place no one could ever fill." He was my little boy & it broke my heart when he died. One of most classic moments of Thirties cinema was the dying line of Caesar Enrico "Rico" Bandello in the movie Little Caesar when he said "Mother of Mercy, is this the end of Rico?" I like to think not. I prefer to think that his antics live on in the memory of his many Dog Channel friends. He's page #5284.

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike We were living in Cleveland and my dad worked in downtown Cleveland. On his lunch break he divided to go to the Old Arcade and check out the pet shop were I was. The pet shop was closing and I was the last puppy there. It was love at first sight for dad and me! He bought me right in the spot! Had to wait for dad to get off of work and then he put me in a box and snuck me on the Rapid. The Rapid is kinda like a train but it runs on electricity. Dad brought me home and presented me to mom. Mom fell madly in love with me! He he he he! I lived with them both for 12 wonderful year and had many adventures with them both. I went to my furever sleep September 16th, 2008. I passed peacefully in the arms of my mom. I wait for them both and I wait patiently just outside the gates of the Rainbow Bridge! I know that someday we will be reunited. Oh what a glorious day that will be! I'm # 258211

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike Remembering My Dog,...... I will remember always this very special one who filled moments of my life with happiness and fun. A special dog, faithful friend who will always be a part of the memories I hold dear, forever in my heart. Tasha died this morning 5/8/07 she never woke from the surgery, she died very peaceful. Tasha was a very sweet and loving dog, she loved kids and cats and everyone. Tasha had cancer and had a large tumor on her tail, the vets were unsure rather to remove some of the tumor in hopes of easing her pain or removing her tail if the tumor was all contain, which it was, so they removed her tail, and she handled the procedure well, but the gas they used was too much on her whole system, in the exam they discovered she had a tumor in her mouth, it was a blessing she just drifted off to sleep, rather than suffer any longer.Tasha is # 1407

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike My mom and dad got married on August 20th, 1994. They spent there honeymoon up in Canada. They went to a pet shop just to look and mom saw me and it was love at first site! They carried me out of the pet store. I walked right into moms heart and found my furever home. I lived with them for 12 wonderful years until I crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I developed breast cancer after my second litter of pups was born. Had tumor removed but it came back 6 years later. They had to have me put to sleep at the age of 12. I passed peacefully in the arms of my daddy! Date of Rainbow Crossing : February 19th 2007 Even though I am gone I am loved and missed dearly. Until we meet again I will wait for you both! I ask my Master and Mistress to remember me always, but not to grieve for me to long. In my life I have tried to be a comfort to them in time of sorrow, and a reason for added joy in their happiness. It is painful for me to think that even in death I should cause them pain. No matter how deep my sleep I shall hear you, and not all the power of death can keep my spirit from wagging a grateful tail!I lived on earth 5/25/1994 to 2/19/2007 & my page is 228034

The day she passed over, a few hours later, she scratch at the back door for us to let her in, just as she had always done. She has left us many signs that she is very much part of our lives. A rainbow one rainy day with a cloud nearby in the shape of her head looking down on us. She is our little sister who still takes care of us. We love her, and miss her every day! Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike Angel Pongo’s info: His page number is 105429 and he joined the DC on 10/08/2008. He has won 3 DOTD’s, 05/28/2009, 07/16/2012, 07/17/2013; and 1 ADOTD, 07/26/2014. He turned 16 years old on July 16, 2014, and passed away exactly one week later at home on July 23rd. He lived with us from birth, as I owned his Mom, Angel; and my husband owned his Dad, Gizmo. Always friendly and outgoing, he got along well with other animals. On the DC, he belonged to the Shih Tzu Club, DC Peace Team, and the Small Dog Club. He and I were extremely close, and until he got ill last July, he was my guardian, who kept an eye on me and let my husband and I know when I needed assistance because of my health problems. His urn now rests in my bedroom, along with his parents’ urns. There will never be another dog like my beloved Pongo.

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike Cinnamon's page number is 54165. She's been on DC since January 2008 and has been DOTD 4 times. She was the first dog in our family. We'd always had cats before, and she grew up around cats. She was only a couple years old when our one cat, Angel Gizmo, crossed the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 19. Cinnamon was a year old when her kitty brother Shadow joined the family. They got along great together. Cinnamon was known to "call" Shadow down by barking at him when he'd jump on the dining room table when he wasn't supposed to. Cinnamon was the sweetest girl who loved to go for walks, go for car rides, and chase squirrels, as well as being near her favorite humans. She was an attention hog who loved meeting new people and new dogs. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge on February 21, 2014 from cancer (a tumor we knew nothing about until it was too late). Having her was a learning experience, but a happy one. We miss her always greeting us at the front door with a toy in her mouth and her tail wagging, ready to go for a walk. We miss her peeking out the window when our car pulls up in the driveway. We miss her laying in our lap or next to us on the couch. We miss her happy-go-lucky personality. We miss her, and always will.

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike I found my Mom and Dad after I ran away from my first home. I had recently had puppies, I think I was a breeder dog. I had been hit by a car, not too much damage, just road burn and a lost toenail, but it was very cold in Memphis, Tn that December day and I knew if I wanted to live I would need to find a "dog lover" to let me inside so I didn't freeze to death. I sniffed out a house with other dogs (lucky for my keen sense of smell), hoping that there was room for one more. Sure enough Mom found me covered by the leaves in her flower garden. It was December 1999 and I had found my new "dog house", there was Jingles (11/89 - 3/06) and Snuggles (3/84 - 12/00) to welcome me. I weighed only 3 lbs and every bone in my body was showing, I went to the vet and he said I would be alright with a little TLC and some antibiotics. Mom and Dad had me spayed so no more puppies thank goodness! I move to Spring Hill, Florida in March of 2005 and my new brother Buddy came to live with us in May of 2006.Her page is 31897

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike Mar 17 at 9:41 PM I was kenneling my cats, birds, and guinea pig, when I saw this big boy smiling. I just fell in love with him instantly. I mean look at that face! It was the first time that I didn't have a dog in my life. I told the woman how wonderful I thought he was, and she told me that he had just arrived THAT day to be fostered. And that he was only in that room waiting for his to be done. Some things are just meant to be. She asked if I wanted to take him outside. As soon as we got out, he rolled over, and I was rubbing his belly. I told her that day, I wanted to adopt him. When it's right you just know it. I came home from vacation, and he came home with me. He was the sweetest, most wonderful soul and brought so much happiness into my life. RAGOM - Retrieve A Golden Of MN He was a Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever Mix he's #207986.

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike She was the best Christmas present for Me from my Husband in 1996!! She filled our lives with joy. She started having some medical problems in the fall and with all the medical care we could get for her, she made her last decision on 11-09-07, and went to the Rain-bow Bridge. We had seen her early that evening at the Doggie Hospital and I held her .. Forever I will be so thankful for that special time with my forever in my heart, RedHead Sonja 15100.

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike So many sad angel stories ending up great. I guess I had it pretty good. Mom saw an add in the paper for hunting goldens. Since she knew the blood line of both my pawrents were know for being good hunters she called the number and reserved a puppy. Little did I know that was me, A few weeks later her and Dad came to get me, Mom said I was the cutest puppy she had ever seen, By the time she got me home she was ready to take me back. I barked the whole 2 hours home. As I grew she came to realize she had never even seen a dog like me before. I had more energy than 10 dogs. So Mom read up on dogs like me and started to train me. She even sent me to a trainer to be hunting trained. Then one day she say a program on tv about a different way to train dogs so she gave it a try, It worked great for me. Finally I began to learn who was in charge and it wasn't me. Mom and I had lots of fun together after that we practice hunting and went on long runs together, My brothers Rusty & Sam where always with us but tired out long before me. We all went hunting with Mom & dad. Oh how I loved to chase those birds. I even pulled one out of the sky that my sister shot the tail feathers off. We also went fishing together. I did not like the water but I loved the pontoon. Dad would let me sit in the drivers seat with him. I loved the wind in my face. One day after a fishing trip I developed a cough. Mom thought I had got some chicken bones my aunt had thrown in the garbage so she took me to the vet. Mom was wrong I had lung cancer. Hoe could that be I was only 6. Two weeks later it almost filled my whole lungs. My next few months would be tough on me so Mom made the tough decision to set me free. I looked at her with so much love and trust in my eyes. I just knew she was sad about her decision and I wanted her to know she made the right one. She held me in her arms when the vet came in to help me cross the Bridge. My brother Rusty was there too. I loved him as much as I loved mom. We were best buddies to the end. I went to sleep surrounded by the souls I loved most in the world. Mom had a hard time with my loss. I would visit her in her heart every day, Five years later she is still struggling with my loss. so I still visit her as I wait for her and Rusty to join me some day. Threw all of the training and trouble I caused Mom at first I became her one dog in a life time

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike My human Brother saw me in a bad situation as a puppy and asked if he could take me home with him and they let him, so I've been with my special family every since. I got my name, Baby, because soon after I came to live with my new family there was a miscarriage in the family and I became the greatest comforter for my human Sister. When I was diagnosed as a diabetic, and went blind the very first thing Mom thought about was how I took care of all of them when they were all so sad, and how now they could take care of me and my special needs. PAY IT FORWARD!!We lost our Beautiful Cowgirl Baby on August 17, 2009 to diabetes. She was a very brave girl and forever we will love and remember her. 12/17/95 - 8/17/09

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike Dec 5, 2014 Anakin, my Cairn Terrier mix, was truly an angel on earth. after Rikki, our poodle crossed the bridge I sank into a deep depression. I saw him at Pet Smart on December 30 and despite my husband proclaiming we were NOT getting a dog that day, we filled out an application. They called the next day, we met them at Pet Smart and brought him home on New Year's Eve. He brought us back from the deepest hole imaginable with his love and devotion. I will always be grateful we were blessed to have him for the too short a time we did. He passed away at 6 years old, in my arms while I sang to him a song I made up just for him. I love him and miss him every day!

Guardian Angels/This month honoring Angel Spike He was a very hard good-bye! We loved this boy to the moon and back! We rescued him from a flea market at age 5wks, he was one of 19 black labby puppies. They were piled up on top of one another looking like a mound of dirt. My Hubby reached down picked one up and we brought him home for 10 yrs! He drove us to the brink the 1st 3yrs of his life.. such a wild and crazy boy. We had been through K9-hands off training twice, our Trainer was good but she did shake her head at him more then once . LOL! Our Vet would say; "OH NO!!! Not you!!" When we would go see him! Aww, but at age 3yrs he turned into the finest gentlemen, such a loving and loyal boy. Not just to family but to his fursiblings too! He appointed himself to be the guide dog to his fursis when she lost her vision due to diabetes. So, she still got to swim, go on walks at the park and trails, etc.. he oversaw her like a 2nd Mom! We will not ever forget this boy and our memories keep us comforted and smiling! Congratulations today big buddy, he won dog of the day 9/15/14!! Forever and Always .. I love you!!
