How We Met?
During a visit to a former co-worker and old friend of my husband's, I discovered that they had a litter of pups. While there, this one particular pup, a runt, wandered too close to the chickens and was reprimanded by "Mother Hen". My youngest dashed out the door and scooped the puppy up. He brought him to me to make sure that he was okay; after that the puppy sat on my lap while we visited. We spent the majority of the day there, so off my lap but under a watchful eye he went. For the remainder of our time there, I would check on him and make sure he was still safe (that is, if he was not back in my lap). Initially, I had no intention nor had planned on bringing a puppy home; after all, I didn't even know they had dogs much less a litter. I was, however, drawn to this puppy if for no other reason than he was a runt. I have always been partial to runts, maybe it was because I started life as something of a runt. As time drew closer for us to leave, my husband continued to comment that I "was not going not be taking him home"...honestly, I think he was trying to convince himself. :-) When the time arrived, he told me to put him back in the backyard. As I headed that way, I told this beautiful little (4.5 lbs at 8 weeks) pup that even if I had to leave him, I WOULD be back. I took no more than 2 steps away from the puppy when hubby said, "Go get him." As you can tell he didn't do a very good job of convincing himself....his heart was taken alsmost as much as mine was. Little Bit had a family and a name before we ever left. ;-) It was not until the next day that I started suspecting that he might be deaf (the vet confirmed it a few days later). I had already decided that it didn't matter and that we would learn together. We have never regretted the decision.....
