Ole Bullet: Dad had always wanted a registered Black Mouth Cur Dog like the one in the movie "Ole Yeller". He finally decided to buy one. He drove 200 miles to see Ole Bullet, and it was love at first sight. ..... Sheba, a German Shepherd Dog was being raised in a pen in the woods far from any house or humans. Could not leave her there, she went home with us that very day! ..... nubbin is a Rat Terrier and Beagle mix came from the MS Animal Rescue League in Jackson MS

I'm glad you all are enjoying my blogs and getting to know Joanna and Pixie Dust through me. Tonight I am quite tired after a long day. Yesterday I was bathed and today I was body clipped. I have to admit I feel so much better after mama did all that but I am a bit tired. Mama is going to check on me before going to bed to make sure I don't need a blanket. At least today was nice and warm. It was almost hot! BTW, to my other than equine friends, a blanket is a coat! Trimming makes a huge difference. I feel like a completely different horse and people didn't recognize me! Pixie Dust used to be trimmed too. She and I share the same heritage. We are descended from tiny hardy ponies on the Shetland Isles. To withstand such severe weather we developed NASA rated fur coats that can withstand the harshness of Arctic weather. Seriously! Anyway, while those coats come in handy during the cold of winter, they are rather bothersome when the weather starts to heat up. On Pixie Dust's page you can see how fuzzy her thick coat is. There are a couple of photos of her trimmed but the best ones are on my page and those of the other members of my family on the other channels. The photo of Pixie Dust visiting Joanna in bed. Thank you to Frances and Fancy for making those! I would also like to point out that we made a tribute video to Joanna with the participation of her HC friends. It is called, Remembering Joanna. It is on the Horse Channel and on YouTube. I would love for you to see it. Since the video search feature doesn't work on any of the channels, (perhaps you all know this!) the easiest way to find the video is by clicking on… hm, let's see, oh, I know! My birthday cake video! It was approved this morning and is on the first page. After you've seen, Pippin: Birthday Cake, and enjoyed watching me slobber away, click on the initials MS and it will bring up all my videos. Remembering Joanna is on page 2 of my videos. I hope you enjoy it. Good night everyone and here's a vote! Pippin 11626 P.S. Tomorrow is my last day of blogging for Pixie Dust. Melian, Tom, and I hope to get back to personal blogging soon!

Day 20 and vote 20. Already! Tonight I would like to give a brief outline of Joanna's life. I have mentioned parts of it in my blogs but it may be confusing as I didn't follow any type of timeline. Joanna was born on New Year's Day, 1977. She had some medical issues and in her childhood she required several surgeries including spinal fusions. She was always an animal lover and enjoyed the company of her cats and her budgie. Born with the horse crazy bug, she finally got to fulfill her dream of equine partnership at the age of 14. She persuaded her family to purchase two shetland ponies, one of whom was Pixie Dust. Joanna and her mother started and ran an after school programme, called Love-a-Pony, to teach and share the love and care of horses with others. At 18 years of age, Joanna graduated high school and continued to work with Love-a-Pony. 3 years after her graduation and 7 years after she started the Love-a-Pony programme, Joanna suffered respiratory failure and required a tracheotomy and a nighttime ventilator. She could no longer work with the programme but saw the horses when she could. 4 years later in 2002 her legs failed her due to spinal compression. She could no longer visit her beloved horses except on rare occasions with help, so her horses would visit her in bed. Pixie Dust was a special inspiration to her and their special bond helped reinforce her already positive outlook on life. For the last 9 years of life she was bedridden but she never lacked the love of family and friends. Throughout her life she made an impression on everyone who was fortunate to cross paths with her. And we remember her with love and a touch of sadness. But not too much sadness because Joanna wouldn't have wanted that! On the 23rd of September, 2011, at the tender age of 34, Joanna passed away peacefully in her sleep. Just 5 months later Pixe Dust, at the age of 21, also passed away. Perhaps Pixie Dust missed her friend? I like to think of them together again. Leaving a vote of thanks for all your blogs. Pippin HC 11626 P.S. Mama finally gave me a piece of my birthday cake! Mmmm, I couldn't believe how good it was! As I said yesterday, I've never had cake! And yes, it's my new favourite! Whipped cream pineapple cake! I licked the plate completely clean! The dogs have got to get themselves a new job. I'm the new dish prewasher! Mama uploaded a video of me eating my cake. I don't know how long it will take to be approved. So, keep an eye out! Unless you're grossed out by slobbering sounds. hehe

Thank you so much for stopping by my page today for my birthday. I had a wonderful day! I got some bread which is my favourite. Then I got to eat some apple treats which are also my favourite. And then I ate some nicker makers which are my favourite. And, last but not least, for my grazing time this afternoon I was in a patch of big, beautiful dandelions, my favourite! Mama didn't have time to buy the shots for me yet so I was spared that. Tomorrow she wants to bathe me and give me my spring clipping. So I will go from cute and fuzzy to sleek and elegant! I don't mind being trimmed and afterwards I will feel so good! As long as it doesn't snow again. Many thanks again for your continued support for Pixie Dust. I'm glad that you enjoyed reading Joanna's own words about her beloved furry friend. I remember Joanna writing about another love that she had, and that was watching the show, Dancing with the Stars. I can only imagine how much joy it gave her to watch her favourite stars dancing to the music and interpreting it with their own moves and steps. Joanna couldn't walk, let alone dance, but instead of letting that get her down, she experienced the joy and art of dancing by sharing in others' joys. So many of us are jealous when someone else can do something we can't or has more priviledges. Instead we should take Joanna's example and feel joy that someone else is lucky. For by dreaming and sharing the joy of others more fortunate, Joanna got to dance with the stars! She even met a couple of them which must have been an amazing experience for her. I like to dance too and the next time I gallop freely around my pen with my head held high and my tail in the air, I will think of those less fortunate and be grateful for the life I have. Mama also promised me a piece of cake tomorrow. I don't know if this will be my new favourite. I've never had cake! Thank you again for your support and friendship. And here's a vote for you! Pippin 11626 P.S. Thank you for the apples, my favourite!

Thank you SO much for stopping by my page today with your dotd vote. It doesn't matter that I didn't win. I couldn't! It's been less than a year since I last won. But that's okay, because I always love when you visit! Thank you also for remembering Tiny and leaving her a vote. We recently commemorated the 3rd anniversary of her passing. Not a day goes by that mama doesn't remember her fondly and Tiny is often in her dreams. Those seem so real and are a precious treasure. It means the world to both of us that she is still remembered by all her friends here on DC. She's a very special dog! I wish I could have met her though I might have been a little jealous! I don't like sharing mama's attention. Mama says that's okay though. I am my own dog and I will make my own very different memories. Some of you may already have heard this when you stopped by on her anniversary but in order to reach all my friends tonight at such a late hour, I have to write my general thanks and appreciation. Pippin HC 11626 celebrates his 7th birthday tomorrow (18th) so we're all excited about that. Thanks to those who have already stopped by his page with birthday wishes. Personal blogs to all will follow later. Leaving a vote from me if Pippin hasn't already beaten me to it! Melian

I hope you're all doing fine. I got a very late start tonight with my blogging. After 1am and I haven't even started! Thank goodness I'm a horse and don't need to sleep much. If I were a human I'd be really tired by now. We horses only sleep about 4 hours a day so I'm up most of the night secretly playing with my huge wooden spool and my ball. The humans have NO idea at all that I do that. hehe I always ensure that the coast is clear before I attempt any serious play. In the morning they find my toys in different positions from the night before but they still haven't figured it out! Silly ones! Since it is so late I'm going to make this short. Last night I thought about the fact that so many of you didn't get the pleasure of knowing Joanna and I thought that perhaps you could learn a little bit from your own experience. Perhaps you haven't thought about it, but Pixie Dust's profile has remained untouched since Joanna passed away. That means that all of the information on her pages is written by her! Take a moment and read the "How we met" section at the top of Pixie Dust's page. And see for yourselves how Joanna felt about horses and especially Pixie. And if anyone has missed one of my blogs and wants to read them, I've posted them each day on Pixie Dust's page. Take care everyone and thank you so much for your support! Oh, and I almost forgot! The most important thing of all. Tomorrow, the 18th, is my birthday! I will be 7 years old. What a great age! Mama says I'm in my prime. Personally I've always considered myself in my prime. I'm not entirely sure what she means… I have a feeling I know what she's going to get me. She gets me the same gift every year! My annual shots! :( Can you believe it? At least I'll also get some extra treats too. I love food. Food is yummy. Food is good. Mmm, I'd better go and check and see if I missed anything in my manger. Thank you to all who already stopped by with birthday wishes for me. I really appreciate it! I'll blog personally when I get a chance. Leaving a vote of appreciation. Pippin 11626

Hey Ole Bullet

Glad to hear that the prisoners that are left and didn't walk home are taking care of the dogs and training them. I know what it is like to live in small towns in the Deep South! Woofs, Coopie

I'm so glad you all liked my very first blog! I think I'm on a roll here finding my own voice. Actually for being a real horse and not one of those movie horses that start making noises as soon as they make their appearance on screen (have you ever noticed that movie horses ALWAYS whinny while galloping along at great speed? And as soon as the camera is turned on them "NEIGH" you hear a noise. What is with that?) I'm actually quite vocal! I neigh quite frantically if I think mama has forgotten to feed me. If I'm annoyed I squeal. (Mama says I squeal like a pig but I like to think I sound more… what's the word?) Anyway, now that I've found my voice here's what I have to say! I have been on the HC for over 5 years and in that time so many people have joined and left. Some stay for a few days, others last a month or so, and some even last a year. But there's a very small core of people who have joined and have stayed and have become the centre and lifeblood of HC. And Joanna and Pixie Dust are one of those pairs. I was friends with Joanna for the 3 years she was on the HC. Without fail she answered every blog. She never wrote long blogs but there was always something. And if anyone was feeling sick or was injured, or even just feeling down, she had some kind word to help make them feel better. During all that time not a single one of her friends here on the HC knew that she was bedridden and tied to a ventilator. The internet was her only way of getting out in the world and making new friends and experiences. She never once complained of anything! She mentioned the joy of seeing Pixie Dust and mama just assumed she was visiting Pixie Dust. She never guessed that Pixie Dust was actually visiting Joanna! Joanna gave the ultimate example to all of us of how we should care for others despite what is going on in our own lives. To know what she went through in her too short life and yet to know she had such an amazing attitude is an inspiration to all of us. I know that it affected us all to the better. We never know what troubles another person has, especially when we only know someone on the internet, and kindness will bring us a long way! Thank you for remembering this very special person with your daily votes for her beloved companion and friend, Pixie Dust. HC 101958 Neighs and kisses (I do give very sweet kisses!) from Pippin HC 11626 P.S. Last night I made a typo when mentioning the date of Joanna's death. I'm not used to typing with my hooves! I wrote that she died on the 23rd of September, 2010. It was 2011. Just 7 months ago.

Hey Ole Bullet

Great news from the Kitties. Too bad about the ferals, we have ferals too. Most of them are spayed and neutered, but peeps continue to drop of kittens. What a mess when they do that. We have to TNR, it costs us lots to do this, but the alternative is worse! Feral Cats have lots of rights in the county where we live! They can live here w/o owners, wandering the area, nothing animal control can do. Dogs sure don't get those rights, just being off a 6 ft leash is a violation! Thanks for voting! Woofs, Coopie
