How We Met?

A little puppy named Lady by her dog mom's family (I changed her name to "Indigo" because as a little girl I had always loved that name and said it would by the name of my dog) came into the world on April 15th, 2005. She was the runt of the litter and the only one of her color; all her siblings were black and white. I think that is special, because she added color to my world. She was the most precious puppy there ever was. I loved her with all my heart and I spent so much time with her. She was my very best friend. As she grew up, we both learned a lot. I trained her to be a good girl, and she trained me to be patient. ;) My family and I lived on a beautiful island and Indigo got to run free on it all day. Through the ups and downs of my life, Indigo was always there...at least for the short time she was given to spend here on earth. One morning I woke up to find Indigo downstairs on the floor shaking uncontrollably. We thought maybe, for some strange reason, she had a chill, so we got the house nice and warm and bundled her up in blankets and snuggled with her. But it didn't help...Sometimes she would stop, and we all got our hopes up that she was going to be all better. But she didn't. Christmas day wasn't a jolly one. Indigo had always had so much fun tearing the wrapping paper off her presents, but now she needed help opening them. She didn't care what was in them anyway though. Someone gently pet Indigo and she let out a terrible squeal. It was hurting me so much to see her in such pain. My other dog, Peaka, had just had a life-threatening injury by running into something sharp and cutting her side open. She had a drain tube and tons of external & internal stitches. Something had gone wrong with her healing process. The drain tube wasn't working. The fluids that needed to come out weren't draining. So my dad and I took Peaka back to the vets in my dad's airplane (the only way to get to and from the village we lived in) but this time we brought Indigo too. Peaka was checked in first. I knew there was no guarantee that Peaka could be saved...And Indigo...My world fell apart in those painful moments of wondering if I would go home without both the dogs who were such a big part of my life and made a house home. After Indigo's exam, the vets were so sorry to tell me that Indigo had complete kidney failure and very painful ulcers all throughout inside her body...that is why she cried when touched. Hey there, Angel Indigo!

Stopping by with a vote for you. Hope to see you in the window tomorrow. Such a beautiful girl! You should have had a much longer life. Shame on those companies for their negligence!! That is why my Mom feeds me what she cooks for me. She knows what I am getting. She doesn't want me to fall victim to bad dog food!! Have a great day up there at the Bridge. Say "Hello" and give some kisses to my Mom's dog, Buddy, a black Newfoundland/Flat-Coated Retriever mix. He has been up there since Oct. 2006. And her dog, T.G. Shepherd, a black and tan German Shepherd who has been there since Oct. 1991. She misses them both so much! But that is why I am here. I helped to heal her broken heart. Give them both some nose nuzzles and kisses from me, too! BBS. Left you each a vote and lots of Sweet Golden Kisses...

Beautiful Angel Indigo

We voted today for your DOTD tomorrow! You are such a beautiful Yellow Lab, and look so much like Daddy's Angel Apples! Apples was a Seeing Eye Dog, and the most wonderful Guide Dog there ever was! I wish you could have known him. He did it all. He was in Dog Fancy Magazine in December in 2008, I think it was, as Dog of the Year! He saved Daddy's life many times (Daddy is blind), and when he retired, he volunteered at the Veterans Hospital! He also was Momma's Service Dog alerting her to her seizures! He gave all he had every day of his life! We miss him STILL so very much, so we know how much your Mommy misses you, too! I can't wait to see your beautiful face in the FRAME of FAME tomorrow, little Sweetheart. Love and Kisses, The New York Mob

A page in Indigo's Diary....

When mom was a little girl she always wanted a dog of her very own and said it's name would be Indigo. I was born on April 15th, 2005 and of all the dogs in the world, mom chose me to be that Indigo.....Her Indigo. In my new home with people who loved me bunches I was as happy as a pup could be. Mommy and her family lived on a beautiful island on Lake Clark and I got to run around on it all day. It was lots of fun exploring the woods and poking my head into fox holes. I guess no one was ever home. hehehe...I also loved to romp on the beach and go for rides in our boat which I got to enjoy quite frequently since we lived on an island. BBQ picnics and campfires in the summer were always lots of fun. I liked to hangout under people's lawn chairs waiting til they dropped something and then I could get it when they didn't even notice. hehe. In the winter I came along on many snowmobile trips. When I got tired from running beside the snowmobile (we went a long ways sometimes) then I would sit in mom's lap on a sled pulled behind. I was mom's best friend and always kept her company. We sure did have a lot of fun... But I wasn't given much time to spend with the people who loved me so much. My life was taken abruptly towards the end of 2006. I died after eating dog food that had been contaminated by melamine. I didn't even get to have my 2nd birthday. I had been the best little friend mom ever had and she was so sad I was given such a short life. It just didn't seem fair. But I did have the best life imaginable to a dog so it wasn't for nothing...no, not at all. I did my part while I was here. And my memories will be in mom's heart forever. She will ALWAYS love me and remember the wonderful times we had together. If you would like to read my whole story (written by mom) it is on my page. Part 1 in "How we met" and part 2 in "Where I hang out". ♥ Angel Indigo
