As promised, we will see the golden sun and the silver moon on this adventure! We ready our steeds and prepare ourselves for a run of 8 miles or so. With their metallic hooves pawing the ground and their nostrils flaring the horses are impatient!
The sun is already shining with a peculiar light. Everything is bathed with iridescent sunbeams. Our eyes have been specially protected against any harmful rays. We look at the sun and see a slight concave bump in the side. It's the moon!
We ride for a 3rd of an hour and stop to take in the passage of the moon across the sun. It is now halfway on its journey. The sun is clearly a crescent. A single solid sunbeam cuts across the sky and shoots straight into the earth. It is clearly visible like a lance piercing the earth in a direct line from the sun. The sun also shines multiple separate sunbeams that play with our shadows.
We look down and we have double shadows! A few inches to the left of all shadows is a second, lighter shadow. Several of the horses look down in amazement and a couple of them sniff the shadows and snort suspiciously. The shadow is harmless and soon the horses are ready to go a little further on our journey.
A little while later we again pause and look up at the sky. There are a few clouds but they only enhance the beauty of what we see. The sky is an unnatural, over saturated blue. It's so brilliant that it almost looks like precious sapphires!
The ultimate moment is almost here. We await the completion of the Ring of Fire and watch as the moon makes its path to create a perfect circle. Wow! It is amazing to behold! There are a few exclamations of wonder but most are silently watching with wonder.
The sun is a golden circle with a dark centre that is the moon. The ring is clearly visible for several minutes. Then it is over. The moon continues its journey to the other side and we continue our journey to the river and let the horses and dogs take much needed drinks.
Soon the clouds are covering the sun. We were lucky! We had a clear sky at the crucial moment. Now the sun is a misshapen blob as we start our own journey back home.
There are a few moments of clarity when we pause to look back up at the sun. It will never feel quite the same.

Yay...glad the book came. Mom really hopes your mom likes it, she doesn't know where she'd be without ours. I know your gonna love the stuff your mom makes from it.
Wish your dad a very Happy Birthday from us. My dad won't let us lay on the smooches like mom does but try and slip your dad one from us. Sometimes we get lucky and make one stick when dad least expects it.

Mom put the new trim on and is painting it tonight. When that's done all she has to do is fix up the floor and she wants to build a breakfast bar. Then the kitchen will finally be finished..whoo hoooo!!!!

Another sunny midday adventure! This evening is a full solar "ring of fire" eclipse. For those of you fortunate enough to live on the West coast you can see the solar eclipse at 6:30 this evening. I'm so excited because we are in Northern California and will see it at its peak with perfect symmetry. On the internet I looked up the very narrow path which will show what part of the earth will have prime viewing and we're directly in the centre!
In fact, it's already getting a little bit darker. And have you considered that Shadowfax is a mythical creature from the Lord of the RINGS! And this is a RING of fire eclipse? I love the poetry!
So, at around 5:30 we will take our shining steeds (bicycles) and head out to the valley. For those of you who won't be able to see it in real life, come and join us on your silver and golden stallions and we'll make a party of it!

Oh Zeus I was a mess that day......
Moma said I was like some ragamuffin in off the street I looked so terrible! She had to clean my bling collar and wash my face and paws. Dang I had a good time though!! Oh that cheeky Ziggy was in his yard today...right where he belongs I might add. Anyway he was barking at something....not me as we got that issue straight and so I barked back. I mean I just wanted to remind him I was on duty over here. He shut up after that. We might end up being friends but it has to be understood the pecking order around here and being the new dog he is low on that totem pole. Well Moma is getting better w/her pneumonia. She has to take her Mother to see the doctor tomorrow for a follow-up visit after her hospital release and tomorrow is her sister Bonnie's last radiation treatment. She isn't doing bad at all. Now my Daddy has a sore throat & chest congestion so he is all mad thinking that Moma has given him whatever her & her Mother had. Like she did it on purpose!! Moma just rolls her eyes. Anyway she will be busy this week as she herself has to go back to the doctor to see if he wants her to take another round of this medicine. He said it could take another week of meds. Ok Zoosie Caboosie....so ends another chapter here at my house....wish you where here Big Guy. I think just of sight of you would make Ziggy faint!! hahaha love you.....LilyPuppy

Hi Zeus
Hope you are still doing well. We think of you all of the time. Thank you for barking by and congratulating us on our 3 year DC anniversary. Sorry it took us so long to bark back with a thank you. Mom got a new job that is keeping her really busy and she had to go to Atlanta for training.
Before mom left for Atlanta though, the paper towel bandit struck again. Mom had left a baked potato wrapped in a paper towel sitting on the counter while she waited for the rest of her food to heat up in the microwave. She left the kitchen to go do a couple of things. When she heard the microwave ding, she got her food out & started looking for the baked potato. It wasn’t anywhere to be found on the counter. That’s when mom realized that it must have been stolen because of the paper towel. Sure enough, mom found the baked potato laying in the middle of the hallway & the paper towel had completely disappeared. No one had even tried to eat the baked potato as we don’t steal food, only paper. HeHe Mom is laying the blame on Money as being the paper towel thief.

Fun Dog Facts
Small dogs live the longest. Toy breeds live up to 16 years or more. Larger dogs average is 7 - 12 years. Veterinary medicine have extended this estimate by about three years. However, some breeds, such as Tibetan terrier live as long as twenty years.
