Dogs Are Happier With Friends

By Joanne Yohannon, SVP North Shore Animal League America

Q. I recently rescued a Pit Bull/Boxer mix and now I’m thinking about rescuing a Bulldog, but I’m curious about something. Is a dog really happier with a friend in the house? Do you think having a second dog will benefit the first one?

A. It is wonderful that you chose to rescue a homeless animal. Dogs are social creatures and pack animals that usually enjoy the company of other dogs as well as most human beings. It is very important to look around for a dog that will get along well with your dog at home. You can search on a pet adoption site, like www.adoptapet.com and look for a shelter or rescue group in your area. They will help you choose a dog that will get along well with your dog. Good luck with your search.
