A Fun, Fascinating Celebration of Dogs

When it comes to dog events, there is really nothing quite like the American Kennel Club’s Meet the Breeds. No matter how many dog events or shows you might attend, there is no other single place where you can experience the variety of dogs that you see here – 167 breeds at the latest show.
And it is an experience.
More than just seeing the dogs, this is an opportunity to talk to those who know that breed, who can tell you whether it might be a dog for you or just why they love it so much.
I have been to every single Meet the Breeds show at Long Beach, and in fact have pitched in each year to help design and build my club’s Cairn Terrier breed booth. (I have to brag: We won the Terrier Group blue ribbon this year for our Hurray for Howlywood booth, celebrating the Cairn in movies.)
Plus it is fun. There are costumes to celebrate a dog’s culture and history, or maybe just to dress up for the holidays.
I roamed the latest show for two days, snapping photos and enjoying endless conversations with other dog lovers, learning a good deal in the process.
Here is a video slideshow with some of the highlights. Have you gone to Meet the Breeds? What is your favorite breed?
