Welcome to My Blog

Suzanne Stowe
Professional pet sitter and consumer marketing manager

I am very excited to join DogChannel as its newest blogger. I am the consumer marketing manager for DOG FANCY, Dog World, and Dogs for Kids. In addition to that responsibility, I have been a professional pet sitter for the past three years.

I can’t have a dog where I live now, so I’m happy my pet sitting allows me to interact with lots of different dogs. I’ve learned so much through my experiences, which I will be sharing in this blog. Many of my clients ask me to stay overnight with their precious pooches.

I’ve stayed with three retrievers and 10 cats (in one household), an elderly Shiba Inu, and a yellow Lab with Cushing’s disease, diabetes, and a gas problem. I’ve taken care of a six-month-old Jack Russell Terrier, a Maltese puppy whose yips can pierce your eardrums, and two Italian Greyhounds who have to be under the covers at night. One of my favorites is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Ruby who loves to cuddle with me.

In my three years of pet sitting, I’ve never been bitten by a dog and never even had one growl at me. In my upcoming entries, I’ll tell you more about some of my doggie clients and my tips and tricks for making the pet sitting experience positive for the dogs, my clients, and me. I hope you enjoy my stories and learn something at the same time. Feel free to give me feedback on what you read or what you’d like to see in future blogs.

Hi, love your blogs! You gave me an idea. I am a retired N.C. probation officer and am on disibility. I need a part time job to suppliment my social security. Could I be a pet sitter?! My condition requires me to be able to sit and stand as needed. I have a cocker spaniel and walk him and play with him and do all the things needed to take care of my baby. How would I get started as a pet sitter. Is there a license requirement? I think this might be my answer! Carolyn

Nice to read your comments--I have been petsitting for well over 16 years-used to own a retail pet supply store and started doing it for customers and suddenly petsitting became more profitable than retail-- got rid of retail business and this became my full time job--fun for anyone who loves animals and enjoys working with people who love their critters--many good stories to tell--keep us posted on your "encounters" and ignore that comment about "scaring customers away"--most of us do a great job and we couldn't beat them away with a broom because of that fact--- let me tell you about the fabulous xmas bonus'... but that is another story-- enjoy the holidays--lots of work but it is worth it!

I can't wait to read more. My dream job would be pet sitting. I have had numerous dogs and currently we have a cairn terrier and a rat terrier. They are the love of my life ! We trade "sitting" with a neighbor, but she is moving away. Sure wish you could come to MY house. LOL

L, I think you're being a little too critical about something just because of the title! Did you even read her blogs? She seems like one of the best pet sitters you could hire!
