What's this?
Also known as the Brown Spaniel, this is an American breed that was developed in the Midwest to spring and retrieve waterfowl, but it's an all-around shooting dog that will also bring in rabbits, grouse, quail and pheasant. Its charm and trainability make it not only a favorite hunting companion but also a great family dog and watchdog. Because of its sweet temperament, the breed has also been used in pet-facilitated therapy programs at convalescent homes. American Water Spaniels range from 24 to 45 pounds and are 15 to 18 inches tall at the shoulder. This spaniel's tightly curled coat can be solid liver, brown or dark chocolate in color. It doesn't shed much and can be maintained with weekly grooming. With three or four daily walks or playtimes, the American Water Spaniel adapts well to city or country living..
