Cesky Terrier DOG PROFILE

The Cesky (ches-kee) Terrier is a relatively new breed and still quite rare all over the world. Dr. Frantisek Horak, a Czechoslovakian geneticist, wanted a dog small enough to go to ground (and not get stuck) and hunt small vermin. He used the Scottish Terrier and the Sealyham Terrier in developing the Cesky, starting in 1949. By 1963, Dr. Horak had achieved recognition by the Federation Cynologique Internationale, the prominent European registration organization. The Cesky is a delightful pet that gets along with other dogs. It seems adaptable to any situation and loves people of all ages, especially children. Its small size makes the Cesky an attractive family pet. The Cesky is clipped with an electric clipper rather than being stripped like most terriers. The non-shedding coat is soft with a silky luster, and long hair is left on the sides, legs, over the eyes and beard. The Cesky is of medium length, stands 11 to 14 inches at the shoulder, and has an undocked tail that is 7 to 8 inches long. This dog should weigh between 13 and 20 pounds.
