What's this?
Of British origin, the original smooth-coated Fox Terrier combined the blood of several working terrier breeds, a blend that produced a balanced, game little dog. Among the first of the terrier breeds to come to North America, the Smooth Fox Terrier enjoyed enormous popularity as a family pet during the early part of this century, aided no doubt by a record company's internationally advertised mascot, pictured listening to its master's voice on the company logo. The breed makes a challenging house pet, always ready for a bit of fun. Fox Terriers enjoy both country and city living, as long as a daily walk is provided. Without an outlet for their energy, Fox Terriers can become diggers. They are good with children and make excellent watchdogs. The smooth, hard coat is predominantly white, marked with black, tan or ginger. Brushing is needed on a weekly basis. Although for a time the breed's wire-coated relative eclipsed its popularity, the Smooth is enjoying a successful comeback.
