Akbash Dog

By | Posted: Wed May 22 00:00:00 PDT 2002

The Akbash Dog is the Turkish counterpart of the other white guard dog breeds found in Europe around the Mediterranean Basin, such as the Polish Tatra, Hungarian Kuvasz and the Italian Maremma.

The Akbash Dog is striking in its white color, its tall, long-legged appearance and in its refined elegance.

Socialized in the average domestic environment, the breed can make a wonderful companion dog. Conditioned to and kept with agricultural animals, the breed successfully protects American livestock from grizzly and black bears, wolves and coyotes.

Reasonable exercise is necessary to protect the health of these large dogs, which may measure up to 32 inches at the shoulder and weigh in excess of 120 pounds.
