The most popular of the terrier breeds, the Miniature Schnauzer is of German origin and was developed in the 1890s by crossing small specimens of the Standard Schnauzer with the Miniature Pinscher or the Affenpinscher. This Schnauzer's engaging personality soon earned it a place indoors as a family pet, where it has been firmly entrenched ever since. The breed arrived on this continent in 1925. It has bounced its way into the hearts and lives of thousands of admirers. Intelligent and easily trained, it does well in obedience, and on the home front it makes a super watchdog that is devoted to its family. The Miniature Schnauzer's size, up to 14 inches at the shoulder for either sex, is well-suited to any size home. Its nonshedding coat makes this the perfect choice for those who suffer from allergies. The coat may be solid black, or black and gray with silver-white furnishings. The breed needs frequent combing to keep the beard and leg furnishings tangle-free, and professional grooming attention to maintain that Schnauzer look.

Mini Schnauzers are cute! I own one. She is posted under the name "Flossy"! One thing I learned and I have to disagree with articles and books is the fact that they aren't chewers and are very easy to teach! This dogs chew about everything that comes within two inches; Also they are very hard headed! I think they just ignore you when you give them a command! But don't let that stop you form getting one! They are a friend for years to come!
