With probably the most loyal personality, I would recomend this breed for family life (although, it is posible for a Golden Retriever to vary in personalities, depending on the breeder's care). You may think this breed is powerfull, and you're correct. Although, if you think they are a trouble to walk, you're partly wrong, they are easy to train. If bred and trained by professional trainers to assist the disabled, they become a big help toward them, and a need for safety crossing streets without a human being around. If you are new to owning a dog, I suggest this breed highly.
