RABIES
What it is: Viral disease. It is rare in dogs in the United States, but can infect virtually all warm-blooded animals.
What it does: Attacks the nervous system and it transmitted by saliva, most often through bite wounds from wild animals. The fatal outcome for both animals and humans makes protection against it the most important of the core vaccines.
Vaccination: Vaccinate at 12 weeks of age or as soon as possible after the 3 months old; booster one year later, then every three years thereafter.
