Dog Scratching at Ears

The causes and treatments of a dog’s ear scratching.


CAUSES OF EAR SCRATCHING

Allergies/Hypersensitivities: Atopy (allergy to inhaled substances) or food allergies.

Parasites: Ear mites, ticks (pinna, canal), or fleas (in ear area, not in canal).

Foreign bodies: Dirt, grass awns, wax concretions, or other objects in ear.

Infectious diseases: Otitis externa (bacterial, fungal/yeast).

Tumors: In ear canal.

What to do: Scratching at the ears is not an emergency. Call your veterinarian during regular office hours to make an appointment.

Thanks for the info-I have to take my puppy to the vet tomorrow bc he has been shaking his head and scratching at his left ear :( Good to know ahead of time what the vet can possibly tell me. Thanks again.

My dog is an outside dog all year round, but for some reason he only Scratches his ears when it comeS summer. He will scratch his ears till they bleed on top. I beileve it is flys are getting on his ears and it irratates him.Cause every time i go feed him there are flys on his ears so.. i dont know what to do about the flys?

i have a "bully/boxer" and she repeatedly gets yeast ifections in her ears. Iheard you could "wash"them with a solution of vinegar and water. does anyone know if this is true? it makes sense, women have done the same thing for eons. If you do know f it's safe do you know the ratio, too?
