What was the reason for your most recent pet store “impulse” purchase?
I liked the special display
I watched a demonstration
Someone in store recommended it
The item was on sale
The item had a promotion I liked
It was a new item I wanted to try
I liked the way it looked
I didn’t make an impulse purchase

Don’t Breed Those Dogs

Scores of mixed-breed dogs awaiting adoption should dissuade you from breeding a Chihuahua with a MinPin.

By Allan Reznik

Q. I’m interested in breeding a male Chihuahua to a female Miniature Pinscher. Is it something that has been done?

A. I have to strongly discourage you from breeding a Chihuahua to your Miniature Pinscher. Huge numbers of Chihuahuas and Miniature Pinschers are sitting in shelters and breed rescues all over the country in need of homes. Dedicated, knowledgeable Chihuahua and MinPin breeders do full genetic screening of their animals and are totally committed to producing the soundest, healthiest dogs possible, with the very best temperaments. Please leave breeding to knowledgeable breeders, and don’t add to the problem by creating more so-called “designer” mixed-breed dogs.

THANKS FOR THE ARTICLE..TOO MANY PEOPLE TREAT DOGS (ANIMALS) LIKE PERSONAL TOYS. sOMETHING FOR ENTERTAINMENT OR TO MAKE MONEY FROM, TO SHOW OFF LIKE A PERSONAL TALENT....THEY ARE CREATIONS OF LIFE WITH REAL FEELING WHO DESERVE THE DIGNITY OF PARTICIPATING IN LIFE AND PROTECTED FROM THE ABUSES & REDICULOUS SIDE-SHOW ACTIVITIES WE HUMANS PUT THEM THROUGH....AND ALSO PROTECTED FROM US EATING ANYTHING THAT BREATHES...

While I agree NOT to add designer dogs to all the homeless purebreds out there, it should be noted that even so-called "responsible" breeders of MinPins and Chihuahuas are adding to the problem. So, no, don't breed designer mutts, but how about let's breed a few less Chis and MinPins as well.

I don't understand the need for the so call designer dogs. With all the available breeds out there, why do we feel the need to create more. not only that think of all the dogs that are in shelters and rescue clubs that need homes Let's stop breeding and start giving those already here a home. I presonally am going to adopt my dogs from now on.
