How to Clean a Bulldog
Cleaning those distinctive wrinkles three times a week will keep your Bulldog happy, healthy, and odor-free.
By Kathy Salzberg, NCMG

Q. How do you clean the wrinkles on a bulldog?

A. Bulldogs always warm my heart and bring a smile to my face.

If you are giving him a bath, I would wash those endearing wrinkles with a wet washcloth without soap to avoid getting shampoo into his eyes. After the bath, be sure to dry his face thoroughly, wrinkles and all. Moisture causes bacterial buildup, leading to soreness and odor. However, since most Bulldogs need their wrinkles cleaned more often than they need a full bath, I would clean those distinctive folds about three times a week with either of the following:

1. Pre-moistened wipes that contain lanolin or aloe, made for either pets or human babies;
2. Cotton balls moistened with either warm water or Witch Hazel (no rubbing alcohol, please – it’s too drying and may sting.)
To combat crusty buildup that leads to soreness and to keep those wrinkles moisturized, some breeders apply petroleum jelly or ointment, but do it sparingly as it can get a bit messy if your baby bully likes to rub against you, your carpet, or your sofa.
