Toy Poodle’s Hair Falling Out

Steroids can sometimes prevent dog hair loss.

Ultimately, to find out what is going on you should arrange to have a skin biopsy taken of the abnormal area and submitted to a pathologist. My guess is that it will be some kind of immune system over-reaction, in which case the steroids might make sense.

Of course, if Sophie is not uncomfortable, you can probably do nothing. (She might appreciate it.)

I doubt Sophie has a life-threatening condition, but I would recommend having a biopsy done to get some answers.

I just read the article on a Poodle's hair falling out. I am having the same problem with our chihuahua. he is 6 years old, and the hair loss doesn't seem to bother him, our vet says the next step would be a biopsy, but i don't want to put him through that if we don't have to. Any suggestions?
