Dear friends of Dog World,
It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that BowTie, Inc. has made the difficult decision to discontinue publication of Dog World, effective immediately. The September 2012 issue was the final issue printed.
If you have questions about your subscription, subscriber letters will be mailed in the next couple of weeks. You can also contact customer service here or call 800-361-8056.
Dog World’s website DogChannel.com will continue to serve the dog community with articles written by experts, plus exclusive interviews, news, product reviews, dog events and more. Our annual print publications Dog USA and Puppies USA will continue to be published, and we are planning many exciting enhancements in coming months. DOG FANCY magazine, the authority on all things dog, continues to provide expert information on dog breeds, health, training and natural care, and more. For serious conformation exhibitors, Dogs in Review covers the sport each month with award-winning editorial content.
The Dog World staff is deeply saddened to see the magazine fold after almost 100 years of publication, and we are truly thankful for all of our loyal readers. Dog World made its debut in Chicago in January 1916. Each copy cost 10 cents, or you could subscribe for $1 per year. Prior to publishing the first issue, the Dog World Publishing Co. of Oak Park, Ill., printed circulars touting the upcoming dog magazine:
“The DOG WORLD, an illustrated monthly journal devoted to the interest of the Dog, Dog Breeders and Dog Fanciers, will make its first appearance in January 1916. It will be an accurate recorder and interpreter of all the events that make Dog history, treating the news of the day in an authoritative manner and presenting articles pertinent to canine subjects. We appreciate the fact that to be successful in this venture, we must have the co-operation of all those interested in Dogs.”
We feel that the magazine lived up to its original goals and then some. For many people in the dog world today—trainers, breeders, show dog handlers, performance competitors, and more—Dog World was the magazine that first kindled their interest in dogs, and it was the place where they satisfied that insatiable need to learn as much as possible about dog breeds, training, grooming, competing and simply loving dogs. As we say goodbye to Dog World, we will be forever honored to have been a part of this piece of dog history.
