A Day in the Life: Animal Control Officer
More than a dog catcher, Misha Goodman keeps dogs and neighborhoods safe.

Misha Goodman has a hat she sometimes wears just for the fun of it. It has an image of a dog snatching a Frisbee in midair. It reads: Dog Catcher.
If you harbor any stereotypes of animal control officers, they’re not likely to include this 45-year-old mother of four, who is the director of animal services at the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center.
“In 26 years, I’ve certainly seen the field evolve,” says Goodman, a director and former president of the National Animal Control Association, which helps set standards for animal care and control personnel around the country. “There are still many who call us the dog catchers because the fact is that’s what people most often see you doing.”Want to read the full story?
