Energetic American Foxhounds need room to run in a safe place and must be securely leashed on outings to prevent them from racing off after a cat or other quarry.
“They’ll go over or under any obstacle in their way, so you need to have a secure yard to keep them in,” says Harry M., president of the American Foxhound Club. “Some of these dogs can hunt 40 to 50 miles a night, so you don’t want one to get loose.”
