At first it was amusing to see Weezee chasing the reflected light that bounced off shiny objects like CDs and watches. Playful and very energetic, the 11½-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier-Rottweiler mix seemed fascinated by the reflections.

But it wasn’t long before the game took a disturbing turn.

“Weezee began climbing the walls to get to the lights,” recalls owner Liz Phipps of Wisconsin. “She started running around with her head in the air, searching and barking at lights that weren’t even there.” In the midst of these increasingly lengthy and frequent episodes, Weezee ceased to pay attention to her own whereabouts, falling down the stairs several times, running headlong into a brick wall, once even running into and breaking a window.
