German Wirehaired Pointer

This talented hunter has an eager personality.

A renaissance dog
Content to parade around the show ring with his wiry coat; point and retrieve fowl and small game in the field; and relax at home with his family, the German Wirehaired Pointer is truly a dog who can do it all, which is just what Germans engineered the breed to do around the turn of the 20th century. Early GWP breeders combined traits of nearly a dozen breeds — including the Pointer, foxhound, and Poodle — to create the resulting multitalented dog who fanciers know today.
