Puli

This dog with the corded coat has a lot of energy.
By Cherie Langlois

Caution!
The Puli’s distinctive coat attracts attention, but also ranks as the breed’s main drawback. “You don’t want them running through the woods because the coat picks up every twig and burr. It will also mildew if it gets wet and isn’t properly dried,” says Barbe P., a Puli breeder in New York, and judges education coordinator for the Puli Club of America. “People aren’t prepared for the time it takes to have that beautifully corded coat you see in the show ring.”

Separating and tying up the cords, washing, and drying one of her dogs may take Barbe five hours or more!
