Reflections from spectators at the 2007 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.

It was not the sound of dogs that punctuated the air at the 7th annual AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Long Beach in December. Instead, it was the squeal of delight from show attendees, like 13-month-old Giana Ferrero of California, who had her eyes fixed on the pony-sized Great Pyrenees at the Meet the Breeds exhibit.

Thousands of people arrived at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center on the chilly weekend of Dec. 1 and 2, 2007, to marvel at the nearly 2,500 dogs competing in conformation for titles and $225,000. They also enjoyed the National Obedience Invitational, the Eukanuba World Challenge with 40 canines from around the globe, the Agility Invitational, and, of course, the Meet the Breeds exhibit featuring booths manned by breed club representatives and their dogs.
