Schipperke

This eager dog is a clown at heart.
By Cherie Langlois

Caution: Curious Canine
Don’t trust a Schipperke to stick with you while off leash, says Lynn B. of California, a Schipperke breeder for 35 years. Think of them as the Lewis and Clarks of the dog world: curious, fearless explorers apt to wander off or chase small prey.

Smart and fast, these dogs can also be talented escape artists, says Olga J., vice president of the Schipperke Club of America. “They need obedience training and to learn to come when called,” she says. “It might save their lives one day if they slip a lead or get out of the yard.”
