You’ll be charmed by the adorable Smooth Fox Terrier’s wily ways.
The Captain wanted to play, but preschooler Jimmy was busy drawing pictures. The Smooth Fox Terrier cocked his head, then put a paw on the boy’s arm, but Jimmy pushed him away. A nose on Jimmy’s hand didn’t work either. Finally, Captain leapt squarely onto the pad of drawing paper. Jimmy sprang up, yelling “Stop it! I’m so mad at you!” and chased the delighted dog through the house.
“The Captain got this big grin on his face like, ‘Ha ha, I got you to play with me!’” says Jimmy’s mother, Judy Franklin, a Smooth Fox Terrier breeder and dog show judge in Williamsburg, Va.
Playful and curious, active and smart, the Smooth Fox Terrier is a wash-and-wear, short-coated dog with a curious mind and independent spirit. Smooths may get into trouble now and then, but children of all ages will appreciate their good humor and high energy.
“They love children, and they love playing,” Franklin says. “Their idea of heaven is to be in the backyard with a bunch of kids, throwing balls and Frisbees, and playing tug-of-war and chasing.”
