What drives dog sledders?

An obsession with racing dogs over miles of snow often begins rather innocuously.
“We bought one of those cute, blue-eyed Husky pups,” confesses Darrell Stewart, board member and past president of Cascade Sled Dog Club of Molalla, Ore. It wasn’t long afterward that Stewart found himself training a young dog — blue eyes all grown up — to pull a sled. Stewart has now been racing for more than 30 years and maintains a sled dog kennel of more than 20 Alaskan Huskies.
