Playful and curious, the Affenpinscher is full of surprises.

No mouse is safe in the Stacy home if Flossie Teacake can help it. While touring her family’s soon-to-be-completed home in North Carolina, she spotted a mouse that ran out the door and jumped into a flower pot.

“Flossie went right after it,” says Jackie Stacy, Affenpinscher Club of America president and a breeder in Cary, N.C. “She jumped into the flower pot, retrieved the mouse, then brought it -- quite dead -- to my husband.” That the 4-year-old champion Affenpinscher would go mouse hunting was no surprise to this American Kennel Club dog show judge. “These are determined little dogs,” she says, “and the instinct is still there to go after mice.”
