Massive in size, the Mastiff deserves an equally large place in his owner’s heart.
The atmosphere at the dog show was chaotic, as usual. Chattering people and barking dogs filled the auditorium with a happy noise. Amidst it all walked 18-month-old Devon Everett, her little hand holding a leash. At the other end, a 235-pound Mastiff, Ch. Beowulfs Kodiak Pride, walked slowly, matching his pace to his young handler.
“Kodiak wasn’t distracted by the unfamiliar surroundings or the noise. He made sure that his first priority was Devon,” recalls her mother, Susann Everett, a Mastiff breeder in Syracuse, N.Y.
That’s typical Mastiff: respectful, protective, patient -- a gentle giant if ever there was one.
