Like many of her kind, 6-year-old Amy just can’t contain herself. She’s so happy, she stands on her hind feet, claps her front paws together, and spins around in circles. “Rrrrow rroow roo,” she sings to owner Barbara Johannes, a breeder in St. Charles, Mo.
An effervescent attitude makes the Havanese a favorite family pet. “Havanese were never bred to be anything but a companion animal,” Johannes notes. “They’re very family-oriented. One of their most endearing traits is their focus on you and your mood. They’re very intuitive.”
