Looking for adventure, or maybe just a better view, Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Kairi squeezed out the open bedroom window of Candy Way's Cochranville, Pa., home, and climbed onto the roof.
"When I drove up, there she was, walking back and forth across the roof," says Way, a Wheaten breeder and dog show judge, who had to squeeze out the window, piece of steak in hand, and shimmy over to where the little dog sat. "They are pretty much fearless," she says.
The Wheaten Way
Self-possessed and undeniably social, Wheatens approach life with a sense of adventure and unquenchable curiosity. "You have to keep them inside a fence or on a leash. If they go wandering, they won't come back," says Way, whose two Wheatens, Jordan and Arden, once escaped from the yard. Way searched everywhere until the phone rang. "They had wandered into someone's yard a few miles away and were sitting around the swimming pool with that family, having a good time," Way says.
