Energetic and loyal, the Löwchen thrives on love.
By Vicki Shields

Sporting the lion trim for which the Löwchen is famous, Dante, a 15-year-old therapy dog, visits his friends at a daycare center for developmentally disabled adults once a week.

During each visit Dante, top-ranked Löwchen in 1999 and Best of Breed winner at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in 2000, gets hugged and petted, sits on laps, receives treats, and loves every minute of it.

"He's happy to be there and will gently paw for more attention if he thinks he isn't getting enough," says owner Carole Kramer, Löwchen Club of America president and a 15-year breeder in Clifton, N.J. "Löwchen are excellent therapy dogs because they want nothing more than to give and receive loving attention."
