|How I met my adopted dog:|
|After 33 days canoeing across Nunavik and northern Labrador on a WREAF expedition (Wilderness River Expedition Art Foundation) supported by the Canadian Wildlife Federation, a friend of mine and I reached Nain, Labrador on October 3, 2009. Nain is mostly Inuit and the northernmost permanent settlement in Labrador. The coastal frieghter that would take us back south wasn't due until the 7th, so we spent several days in Nain. The first day there I met a small puppy running loose. While there, I kept seeing her running the dusty streets with other loose dogs. She stood out as a very friendly and happy dog, but her short coat and small size boded poorly for her survival in the coming winter. No one knew where she was from and I was told by a friend of ours there that even if she survived the winter, she would likely just be shot by the dog warden. I was not in the market for a dog, but decided that if she was still around on the morning of the 7th, that I would pick her up.
She was there in the morning. She spent two days on the North Atlantic back to Goose Bay, then three days in our truck back to Montreal. She has had all her shots, been neutered and is a loved member of the family |
