Welcome to My Doghouse Contest Winners

Announcing the winners of DogChannel’s first contest dedicated to multi-dog households!

The editors of DOG FANCY recently asked readers and DogChannel visitors to tell us what their multi-dog homes are like. The glimpses we got into hundreds of doghouses across the country were overwhelming, but we were able to narrow down the pool of adorable photos and stories of great doggie dynamics to the following three winners and two honorable mentions.

Winners

Dogs: Charlie, Coco, and Rocket
Breeds: Boxer, Boston Terrier, Boston Terrier
Owner: Alisha M.
Location: California
About our doghouse: Charlie is the only hearing dog. He is Coco and Rocket’s best friend, protector, snuggle buddy, and playmate.

Dogs: Ryott, Kasey, Rusty, Ripley, Sabyr, Hannah, and Sierra
Breeds: Four Border Collies, Cocker Spaniel, German Shepherd Dog, American Eskimo Dog
Owner: Ann B.
Location: Pennsylvania
About our doghouse: Well, this pack certainly is a pack. Each has his or her role. They are as varied in nature as in breed. They all have their own stories of arrival here. From the Cocker whose owner died to the Shepherd who needed heart surgery. But they all get along – most of the time.

Dogs: Romeo and Bella
Breeds: Old English Sheepdog and Basset Hound
Owner: Sylvia L.
Location: Washington
About our doghouse: I was very concerned about introducing Bella to Romeo, because he is a blind Sheepdog and very dominant. But my worries were put to rest right from the start, as Bella was just what Romeo needed. She wasted no time wrapping him up in her little paws. She taught him to play tug-of-war and catch, and the two of them are truly perfect for each other – a match made in heaven.

Honorable Mentions
Dogs: Turner, Harley, Ripley, Diesel, and Ringo
Breeds: Boxers
Owner: Barbara C.
Location: Ohio
About our doghouse: I'm happy to share my home with Boxers! Especially when the busy day winds down, and everyone ends up piled on the sofa (except me!). Boxers are energetic, fun-loving dogs, so I treasure the calm moments when everyone relaxes together.

Dogs: Millie and Penny
Breeds: Boston Terrier and Pomeranian
Owner: Lori B.
Location: New York
About our doghouse: Penny, the Pomeranian, had just lost her brother Emmett, a 10-year-old Boxer. Two weeks after that she lost her sister Elsa as well. Penny looked and acted a little lost and her eyes seemed blank. So we picked up this little Boston, put her out in our backyard for Penny to find. When Penny "found" the puppy, we let her keep her. That brought her back to life again! She loves her new little sister.

I think Millie and Penny should have gotten first place. Their story is so touching and letting Penny find a puppy to keep is just adorable.
