I couldn’t believe it -- I was going to Florida! It was my dream come true! I had never been to the U.S. before, and boy, was I excited!
The day finally came when we had to go to the airport in Toronto. As my dad put our dog Roxy in her crate in the back of the truck, I blew her one more kiss until we got there.
On the way, my older brother and I couldn’t stop bickering over who got the window seat. It ended up, though, that he got the window seat because “he was older,” like that works!
When we got there, we spent an hour going through security and checking our luggage. Roxy, however, was enjoying barking at everybody through the wires on her cage. When Roxy went through security, she got treats and a whole bunch of “awwwws!”
When we finally boarded the plane, I was a little worried about Roxy, but what could go wrong, right?
About an hour had passed when the flight attendant decided to take orders for supper (chicken or pasta with broccoli). When she was coming back with drinks and food, we heard something … a bark?! Oh no!!! Roxy came dashing down the aisle right onto an old couple’s laps.
As we pretended we didn’t own the dog, she jumped over the seat and onto the cart where everyone’s food was. She had spotted us! She cleared two rows of seats and jumped right on top of me. As I tried to hold her tighter and tighter, she dashed off again!
“Where is that dog headed?” I heard people say. “Who knows?” others answered.
But I knew where she was headed … the cabin! As I unbuckled my seat belt, a small but might beep went off. “Person in seat E7, please put your seat belt back on.” Everyone was laughing!
By the time I pinned Roxy to the ground, the pilot laughed and said, “That is one brave dog!”
“Ya think?!” I said.
After the attendant sent me and my ashamed, but happy, dog back, everyone started smiling. As I apologized to many people, they just said, “Thanks for a great laugh. We don’t mind.”
By the time we got to Florida, Roxy and I were sound asleep. We managed to get off the plane without incident, but once we got to the resort, Roxy … well, that’s another story.
