The 2007 Show Dogs of the Year Award Winners

Christi McDonald

For more than 50 years awards have been given for the top show dogs in America. Beginning in 1954 awards were bestowed to the top winners in four areas of the country, the Eastern, Midwest, Southwest and Pacific divisions. This practice continued until 1967, when the Quaker Oats company began their annual awards for each dog that won the most Group Firsts in each of the then-six variety Groups. BowTie, Inc. became involved with the dinner in 2003, when the company co-sponsored the February awards dinner in New York City with Nature’s Recipe, then in its eighth year as sponsors, and Dogs in Review became involved in 2004. The last event sponsored by Nature’s Recipe would be the 2005 dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of these awards, and in 2006 Purina Pro Plan® came on board as co-sponsor of the Winkie™ awards.

These are the 2007 Show Dogs of the Year Award winners, those who won the most Group Firsts in each of the seven Groups as well as the Best in Show Dog of the Year, for the dog with the highest number of Best in Show wins. Mentioned are just a few of the spectacular moments each of these dogs had during 2007.
