And the Nominees Are... The 2009 Winkies® for Annual Achievement

We’re pleased to formally announce the nominees for the 2009 Winkies®. The winners in each category will be determined by the votes cast on the ballot that will appear in the November issue of Dogs in Review, and the winners will be announced on Feb. 13, 2010, on the evening of the 55th Annual Show Dogs of the Year Awards in New York City prior to Westminster.

This year’s list of nominees includes many who have never been nominated before, as well as a few old favorites. There is no question that the new faces are as worthy of their nominations as our old favorites. The sport of showing purebred dogs is so full of talented individuals who take part as breeders, professional handlers, owner-handlers, judges and club members, that it is impossible to recognize every deserving individual. It is our honor to be able to recognize just a handful of these people and clubs.

The October issue of DR will include photos of each of the nominees, comments from the Nominating Committee, and the criteria used to select and vote for each category.

Congratulations to all!

How about Scott Sommers for handler of the year. He showed a dog that nearly died to Best in show at Westminster. A 10 year old dog in fact that sleeps on his bed everynight with his other Westminster champion a Bichon named J.R.
