A Model Photo Shoot
By
Jackie Franza

I can’t think of a better way to spend a morning than trying to convince a bunch of dogs to sit still, face forward and smile at the camera. If you’ve never attempted to hold eight dogs in your lap at once, you should try it sometime – it’s quite an experience!
One of the best parts of my job (in addition to immersing myself in everything dog) is participating in photo shoots with animals. Lucky for me, this very opportunity presented itself as I was working on the August issue of Dog World – my very first issue as the new editor.
As I started mulling over topic ideas for my editor’s note, I realized that I didn’t have a current photo of myself with a dog. (Sadly, I happen to be “without dog” at the moment, a condition I hope to rectify soon.)
In the meantime, I decided to get creative. When you work for a pet-publishing company, there’s never a shortage of dog models. All the dogs you see in the photos on this page belong to BowTie Inc. employees.
On the day of the photo shoot, I was slightly apprehensive about cramming so many dogs into such a small space, but these pups were extremely professional. I didn’t hear one growl or grumble the entire time.
A few hours, a few treats and a lot of coaxing later, we had some gorgeous photos. I, of course, was covered in dog hair and slobber – a small price to pay for a dog-lover’s dream day.
A special thanks to our furry models: Toy Poodle, Ruthie; Miniature Poodle, Razmataz; West Highland White Terriers, Lily and Pigpen; Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Stella; Yorkshire Terrier, Dexter; Maltese, Snow; and Pug, Ketchup (not pictured).
I’m looking forward to serving as editor of Dog World. I welcome any comments and would love to hear from you. Click here to send us an e-mail.
