Christmas in California
In magazine publishing, you get used to working ahead. Way ahead. On Dog World, we typically finish an issue about three months before the cover date. As the editorial staff works diligently to finish this issue of the magazine, summer hangs on a bit longer. Of course, our editorial offices are in Southern California, which means it could very well be warm and sunny on Christmas Day.
As a Southern California native, the thought of December usually recalls memories of sun rather than snow. In fact, when I was a kid, I would walk my dog Jake on Christmas morning wearing shorts, a T-shirt and sandals. I really can’t seem to remember even one Christmas that wasn’t unseasonably warm. It doesn’t matter if the weeks or days leading up to the holiday are cool and overcast, or even raining – it just never seems to fail that come December 25, the weather is hot.
It was nice to see some of the wintry images in this issue of Dog World. They certainly helped get me in the mood for winter. I still have a few more months to prepare for the holidays, but it’s never too early to get started. And thanks to the Dog-Lover’s Holiday Gift Guide on page 56, I even have a jump on my shopping list. Happy holidays!
