A Proud Moment
It’s been so long since I last raised a puppy that I forgot the joys of potty training. There’s nothing like being jolted out of a deep sleep by a whining puppy, then standing outdoors in your bathrobe, shivering and thinking, “Hurry up, hurry up.” Lucky for us, that routine only happened a few times. For the most part, Jäger sleeps through the night.
Since our puppy first came home, my husband and I have kept him on a strict schedule of mealtimes, walks and potty breaks. We’re also careful to limit his environment – no free-roaming in the house until he’s older. This management prevents potty accidents, but although Jäger’s bladder is getting stronger, he still hadn’t learned to let me know when he needed to go out – until this week, that is.
The other evening, my little Poodle puppy walked right up to the back door, stared at it, then turned and looked pointedly at me. As soon as I realized he was asking to go out, I practically started jumping up and down. It’s a little thing, but I was so proud of my little guy. What a good boy.
