The versatile Vizsla--a powerful performer in the field, showstopper in the conformation ring, and friendly family companion--is aptly named. To Hungarians, whose Magyar ancestors developed the forerunner of the dog we know today, "Vizsla" means "sniffer" or "searcher," from the verb Vislat, meaning to nose about, to sniff or hunt.
One Vizsla stands out as the epitome of versatilith for not only her own breed but all of dogdom. She is Ch. FC AFC OTCH MACH Legacy's DeChartray UDX (5) MH, (1991-2004) who, at 9 years old, became the only dog in the history of the American Kennel Club to achieve a quintuple championship: field trial, hunting, conformation, obedience, and agility.
