Max Is Top Dog Name in New York

More dog owners in the Big Apple chose that name than any other in 2005.

“Max” was New York City’s top dog-name last year, newly-released figures by the city’s health department show.

The name was on 1,228 of the 101,274 dog licenses the department issued last year, according to statistics released Dec. 27. Lucky and Princess took second and third places, followed by Rocky and Buddy, leaving the top-five ranking unchanged since 2004.

In the popular breeds category, mixed breeds, with 7,374 new licenses, outnumbered any other variety in 2005, followed by Labrador Retrievers. American Pit Bull Terriers and Shih Tzus captured third and fourth place, rising from spots four and five in 2004.

German Shepherd Dogs were the fifth most popular breed of 2005, down from third place in 2004, according to health department figures.

geez!do you need to be that harsh on them?i mean max is not a name for slackers maybe it's just short for maxwell or something like that

The name max is so old. I have to say I think that the name Max is what a slacker names their dog. I can tell you now that I will never name my dog that. EVER!!!
